DISPOSITION. AUTHORIZATION.
DISPOSITION: Is money available?
Once a payment transaction is requested, the account will be checked as to whether the amount is available. If credit and possible credit lines allow implementation, the disposition and thus the amount of the transaction is reserved for subsequent transactions. The disposition does not necessarily result in an immediate adjustment of the account balance.
AUTHORIZATION: May the transaction be made in this way?
Authorization confirms the amount requested by the payee. Before the requested amount is confirmed, further inquiries may arise (e.g. the request for strong customer authentication). The authorization does not only follow creditworthiness, but also technical and regulatory criteria. If the authorization requirements are not met, the request may be rejected.
Reasons for rejection may be, among others:
- Insufficient credit / exhausted credit line
- suspected fraud
- technical reasons for rejection, such as an account block or card expiry
- money laundering restrictions, sanctions against individuals or in payment transactions with specific countries
- other regulatory reasons such as the blocking of an account even for beneficiaries after the death of the account holder
